BOE to Hold Annual Meeting with County Assessors

Sacramento—The California State Board of Equalization (BOE) will hold its annual meeting with the 58 County Assessors on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in conjunction with the September 2023 Board Meeting.

“The enduring collaboration between the BOE and County Assessors protects the integrity of California's property tax system,” said BOE Chair Antonio Vazquez. “The Board always looks forward to convening this annual meeting to tackle the pressing topics at the forefront of property taxation.”

The BOE is required by law to meet with County Assessors at least once a year to discuss issues focused on administering property taxation and promoting uniformity statewide. Throughout the past year, the BOE and County Assessors have met and worked closely together to address the ongoing implementation of Proposition 19 (2020), workforce planning, property tax exemptions, and other issues related to property tax administration.

The upcoming meeting will provide another opportunity to discuss further ways to strengthen the longstanding partnership.

The annual meeting will be livestreamed on the BOE website.

The California State Board of Equalization (BOE) is the nation's only elected tax board. It includes four elected Board Members who represent equalization districts and the State Controller. Since 1879, the BOE has carried out its constitutional and statutory duties to support fair and equitable property tax administration in California. The BOE oversees the work of the state's 58 County Assessors to help ensure assessment practices are uniform statewide. The BOE also directly assesses the property of regulated railroads and certain public utilities. In addition, the BOE collects the Private Railroad Car Tax, and administers the Alcoholic Beverage Tax and Tax on Insurers programs. BOE's critical role in California's property tax system helps protect the tax revenues that schools, local communities, and the State depend on every day.
