COHEN: At this time I do want to 7 acknowledge our colleague, Mr. Schaefer. 8 Mr. Schaefer has some information about 9 Keating V that he wants to share with us. 10 MR. SCHAEFER: Madam Chair, thank you for a 11 moment. 12 Charles Keating is a name that is well-known 13 in the United States. The family came out of Arizona 14 and were in real estate matters. They had some 15 controversial matters that were resolved with the 16 courts. 17 And they had a grandson -- a son -- a 18 grandson named Charles Keating the IV. And he came 19 to my district in San Diego. 20 I live in Coronado, where the Navy SEALs 21 base is. And he spent years there learning to be a 22 Navy SEAL. And then he went off to Iraq in the war 23 and was killed in battle three years ago this month. 24 And we celebrate or honor his name in 25 Coronado. The Navy SEALs pubs have pictures of our 26 fallen heroes. We drink toasts to them. And he's 27 really a national hero, and has brought great honor 28 to the name Charles Keating. He's Charles Keating 3 1 the IV. 2 And I would just like to note that this hero 3 of our nation who comes from my district is somebody 4 we all revere in the military. I speak for the 5 military. I speak for the Navy SEALs in some 6 matters. And they love to speak to me, because they 7 retired in early age with a good pension, and they 8 want to go to law school. And I give freely of my 9 opinions, and I'm very proud. 10 I have a Charles Keating the IV little image 11 on the front door of my home. And you'll find it in 12 so many of the places in Coronado, which still 13 respects the Navy SEALs. 14 And I just wanted to take a moment to salute 15 the Charles Keating name, Charles Keating the IV. 16 And make a record of this national hero we lost in 17 May of 2016. And annually I will salute the man. 18 And this is what I'm doing today. 19 MS. COHEN: Thank you for bringing his name 20 to our attention. 21 MR. SCHAEFER: And I'd recommend you just go 22 online and look at Charles Keating No. IV, after you 23 look at Charles Keating I, II, and III. And you'll 24 see the story of his entire glorious career in the 25 military. 26 MS. COHEN: All right. Thank you very much. 27 ---o0o--- 28 4 1 REPORTER'S CERTIFICATE 2 3 State of California ) 4 ) ss 5 County of Sacramento ) 6 7 I, Jillian Sumner, Hearing Reporter for 8 the California State Board of Equalization, certify 9 that on May 29, 2019 I recorded verbatim, in 10 shorthand, to the best of my ability, the 11 proceedings in the above-entitled hearing; that I 12 transcribed the shorthand writing into typewriting; 13 and that the preceding pages 1 through 4 14 constitute a complete and accurate transcription of 15 the shorthand writing. 16 17 Dated: June 17, 2019 18 19 20 ____________________________ 21 JILLIAN SUMNER, CSR #13619 22 Hearing Reporter 23 24 25 26 27 28 5
