RICHMOND: Good morning, Chairwoman Ma 8 and Members. 9 Our first item on this morning's agenda is 10 presentation of a Board Resolution for Honorable 11 Senator Sharon Runner. 12 MS. MA: Yes. Thank you, Members. We lost 13 a dedicated, vibrant public servant, family member 14 of the State Board of Equalization, Ms. Sharon 15 Runner, on July 14th. 16 She was a devoted wife and partner to her 17 husband, Board Member George Runner, dedicated 18 mother and grandmother. 19 Her most notable public policy achievements 20 was co-authoring Jessica's Law with her husband 21 George, one of the strongest laws enacted to protect 22 our children from sexual predators. 23 Sharon was also a strong advocate for 24 public safety, education and children's issues in 25 both the California State Assembly where she served 26 from 2002 to 2008 and in the State Senate from 2011 27 to 2016 respectively. 28 Sharon's long public service encompassed 3 1 many exceptional accomplishments, such as 2 founding -- co-founding the Desert Christian 3 Schools; serving as President of California Women 4 Lead and Political Action; Committee Chair of the 5 California Women's Leadership Association; 6 volunteering for Donate Life California, the 7 National Scleroderma Foundation, and serving on the 8 Sierra Donor Services Advisory Board. 9 She also worked with the charter schools, 10 developing programs to help at-risk students achieve 11 academic success, and the United Way, Antelope 12 Valley Hospital Gift Foundation, Healthy Homes 13 Advisory Council, and Care Net, a pregnancy resource 14 center. 15 Therefore be it resolved that the 16 California State Board of Equalization recognizes 17 the remarkable achievements of Senator Sharon Runner 18 for her distinguished public service career, mourns 19 her death, and extends its sincerest condolences to 20 Board Member George Runner and his family. 21 ---oOo--- 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 4 1 REPORTER'S CERTIFICATE 2 3 State of California ) 4 ) ss 5 County of Sacramento ) 6 7 I, Kathleen Skidgel, Hearing Reporter for 8 the California State Board of Equalization certify 9 that on August 30, 2016 I recorded verbatim, in 10 shorthand, to the best of my ability, the 11 proceedings in the above-entitled hearing; that I 12 transcribed the shorthand writing into typewriting; 13 and that the preceding pages 1 through 4 constitute 14 a complete and accurate transcription of the 15 shorthand writing. 16 17 Dated: September 12, 2016 18 19 20 ____________________________ 21 KATHLEEN SKIDGEL, CSR #9039 22 Hearing Reporter 23 24 25 26 27 28 5
