HORTON: Ms. Richmond, next matter. 6 MS. RICHMOND: Our next matter is the 7 Special Presentation of a Board Resolution to 8 Jeffrey McGuire. 9 MR. McGUIRE: Do I sit up here? 10 MR. HORTON: Yeah. I don't have the 11 resolution, but I've been known to elaborate. 12 Mr. McGuire, we want to -- on behalf the 13 Board, we want to thank you for your service over 14 the last 30-plus years. You have -- 15 MS. HARKEY: Here it is. 16 MR. HORTON: -- brought to the Board 17 enormous amount of experience. And your historical 18 knowledge and relationships that you've developed 19 over the years is invaluable. And we very much 20 appreciate the service you provided to the people of 21 the State of California during this time. 22 We wish you much success in your journey 23 forward, and you go with our blessings, our 24 encouragement and our support. 25 This resolution says a lot of fabulous 26 words about a wonderful person, but know that it 27 is -- that we very much appreciate you. 28 And be it resolved that we, the Members of 3 1 the Board of Equalization, do hereby extend to Jeff 2 our highest commendation for his outstanding record 3 of personal and professional achievements and for 4 his dedicated service to the State Board of 5 Equalization and the State of California. 6 Our congratulations on his well-earned 7 appointment as Chief Deputy Director to Department 8 of General Service and our best wishes for continued 9 success in the years to come. We hope that you can 10 accomplish the things that we set forth to 11 accomplish and provide the employees of the Board of 12 Equalization with a new building as soon as 13 possible. 14 MR. McGUIRE: Well, thank you, Members. I 15 have spent, you know, 32 years of my working career 16 with BOE as my home. And I do want to just thank 17 the Members that I've worked with over the years, 18 all the practitioners, the business owners, the 19 taxpayers, and most importantly all the staff that 20 I've had the privilege to work with and accomplish a 21 number of things to help improve the State of 22 California and the way that we administer the tax 23 programs. And I'm very honored by your resolution, 24 and I look forward to our continued partnership in 25 my new role as the Deputy Director -- or the Chief 26 Deputy at Department of General Services. 27 And, again, I just want to thank everyone 28 for the friendships that I've made over the years, 4 1 and I look forward to working with the people in a 2 new capacity in the future. So thank you. 3 MR. HORTON: Mr. McGuire, we would ask that 4 you indulge us and allow us to take a picture with 5 you so we can make this -- consummate this in the 6 history of the Board of Equalization. 7 MS. HARKEY: I would just like to make a 8 quick comment. I have not known you very long, but 9 had -- you led fabulous staff. You did great work. 10 Your 32 years kind of speaks for itself. To rise in 11 an organization like this and to the Sales and Use 12 Tax, which is our biggest department, to head up 13 that and have such respect from the staff that 14 reported through you is -- is admirable. So I want 15 to thank you for your service, and I look forward to 16 working with you at DGS as well. 17 MR. HORTON: Member Runner. 18 MR. RUNNER: I think it's a -- it's a 19 strategic placement for the BOE. And we are -- we 20 have -- we have high anticipation to helping us 21 solve our problem. Thank you, Jeff. 22 MR. HORTON: Member Ma. 23 MS. MA: Yes, thank you. 24 Since you've been here a long time, you 25 understand some of the challenges that we have. And 26 so we look forward to working with you over at DGS 27 under the new Director Daniel Kim, and hopefully 28 you'll be a great advocate for us and we look 5 1 forward to our continuing relationship with you. 2 MR.
