HORTON: Ms. Richmond. 6 MS. RICHMOND: That concludes our business 7 for today. 8 MR. RUNNER: Mr. Chair. 9 MR. HORTON: Yes, Member Runner. 10 MR. RUNNER: Yeah, just, as we conclude, or 11 as we get ready to adjourn, I'd like to adjourn in 12 memory of an employee who passed away. So if you're 13 ready for that now. 14 MS. HARKEY: My San Diego person? 15 MR. HORTON: Well, we're going to continue, 16 but I think now would be the most appropriate time, 17 Mr. Runner. We can adjourn after the budget 18 session. But please, by all means -- 19 MR. RUNNER: Oh, that's right. That's 20 right, we are coming back tomorrow. I forgot about 21 that. 22 MR. HORTON: But I think -- 23 MS. RICHMOND: Excuse me. This is a 24 separate hearing -- 25 MR. RUNNER: Oh. 26 MS. RICHMOND: -- from tomorrow. 27 MR. HORTON: Oh, it is? 28 MS. MA: Yes. 3 1 MS. RICHMOND: A separate meeting, I 2 mean. 3 MR. RUNNER: So we are adjourning. 4 MS. STOWERS: We are adjourning. 5 MR. HORTON: Okay. So be it. Mr. Runner. 6 MR. RUNNER: Yeah, we had a -- an 7 individual who I've known for a while, Joe Donahue, 8 who was a Business Tax Representative in our Santa 9 Clarita office that passed away a couple weeks ago. 10 He will be missed. 11 He, you know, was a good, healthy man who 12 went to sleep one night and didn't wake up. And -- 13 but it was -- he's been surrounded well with his BOE 14 family down there in Santa Clarita, so I think it 15 would be appropriate to adjourn in his memory. 16 MS. HARKEY: I also have a member who 17 passed away. 18 MR. HORTON: Yeah. Member Harkey. 19 MS. HARKEY: Hi. I would like to also 20 adjourn in memory of Steve Durst who's a Tax Auditor 21 from San Diego, born in 1965 and passed away in 22 2015. He was just 50 years old when he lost his 23 battle with cancer. 24 He was a son, a brother, uncle, husband, 25 father and a grandfather. And he was also friend to 26 countless individuals, and especially his coworkers 27 at the Board. 28 I am told, because I did not know him well, 4 1 I just got here this year, but that he gave 110 2 percent to whatever he did, including his job. He 3 was always first to volunteer for a project and was 4 willing to do whatever needed to get the job done. 5 He was also the office handyman and he had 6 a toolbox in his cubicle for those times when you 7 needed to fix something. Kind of tells you his 8 personality. He was good to have around. 9 His hobbies included riding his Harley 10 Davidson motorcycle, and he bought his wife a 11 motorcycle and taught her how to ride. He was known 12 to drive his car behind her to protect her while she 13 was learning to ride. 14 He loved to play pool, football, and sing 15 karaoke. And most of all, he loved to spend time 16 with his family and friends. 17 He was a kind, generous, compassionate 18 person. He will be missed by his office and by the 19 BOE staff in general. So I'd like to adjourn in his 20 memory. 21 MR. HORTON: Thank you, Member Harkey. 22 And our -- on behalf of the entire Board, 23 our condolence to the -- to their families. One of 24 the most challenging things for any family member is 25 to escort their loved ones to heaven, let go, turn 26 around, then return to the living. It's an 27 extremely challenging process you go through, life 28 and death experiences, as you travel that road, as 5 1 we all know, those who have experienced that. 2 So it's our honor and our privilege to 3 adjourn this meeting in the memory of Joe Donahue 4 and Steve Durst. 5 Members, the meeting of the Board of 6 Equalization is hereby adjourned.
