Introduction to Appraising for Property Tax Purposes
This course introduces new real property appraisers and auditor-appraisers to the fundamentals of appraising for property tax purposes. The course will present the various appraisal approaches and significant appraisal principles for all types of property. The course covers the economic aspects and legal definitions of market value and California property tax laws. This 1½ semester unit course concludes with a final examination.
Property tax appraisers usually take this course within one year of receiving temporary certification; property tax appraisers working for county assessors and the Board of Equalization must receive temporary certification before they may take the certification examination – see the Guidelines for additional information.

Course Credit:
Temporarily certified property tax appraisers who successfully complete this course and pass the certification examination will receive 30 hours of credit towards their annual training requirement.
