Tax Help for Restaurants

California is home to tens of thousands of restaurants, bars, caterers, mobile food vendors, and other food service businesses. That's not surprising given California's abundant population, cultural diversity, and robust tourism.

Owning a restaurant or other food service business can be challenging. To be successful, owners must comply with many complicated and confusing tax laws. It is vital to understand these laws so you can stay focused on serving your customers and growing your business.

The restaurant industry attracts tourism, provides jobs, and supports California's economy. To better assist you, the BOE offers tax guides that offer tips on getting started, basic information on industry topics, and links to resources that address specific questions and concerns.

Additionally, I hosted a second "Tax Help for Restaurants" telephone townhall on October 29, 2014 with the California Restaurant Association to discuss the sales and use tax issues that affect restaurant owners. In case you missed it, here is the audio recording.

You may also listen to an audio recording of our successful 2013 telephone townhall.
